| June 5, 2008 Okay, I guess I should explain our name change. The original concept for Mommy and Me Too! was to provide gently used maternity and children's clothing at reasonable prices in a boutique setting. Over the last 7 years, the gently used children's clothing market for us went flat. We could not compete against the department stores that were selling new clothing for less than my gently used clothing. So with a great deal of thought and contemplation, I discontinued the used kid's clothing and brought in plus size clothing. Because I was a plus size person, I could relate to the prices I had to pay to look good. I had been watching the plus size market for a few years. The shops that opened up with just plus sizes went out of business and the other resale shops never carried a good variety of items. I felt that an established business could bring in plus size clothing and do well as long as the clothing catered to all budgets, styles, & sizes. I felt I could fill that void. So, now 7 years down the road, the Mommy and Me Too! name no longer represents the store as it is now. I really like what I have to offer - gently used maternity & plus size clothing, brand new children's formal wear, American Girl products (not dolls) and jewelry. I am not planning on changing anything else or moving for that matter! So after some more pondering, I have come up with the name, Pansyle's Boutique. We offer the same quality clothing, accessories, and customer service as before - just no gently used children's clothing. Next blog - who the heck is Pansyle?????? |

Over the last seven years and three store moves, the gently used children's clothing market went flat. I could not compete against the department stores that were selling new clothing for less than my gently used clothing. Even I was shopping at the department stores for clothing for my granddaughters. If I wasn’t shopping at my own store, why would anyone else? clothing and started taking in plus size clothing. I had been watching the plus size market in this area for a few years. I had been watching the plus size market in this area for a few years. The shops that opened up with just plus sizes went out of business fairly quickly and the other resale shops never carried a good variety of items. I felt that an established business like mine could bring in plus size clothing and do well as long as the clothing catered to all budgets, styles, & sizes. Additionally, the maternity clothing, children’s new formal wear, and American Girl could provide the needed revenue needed while my business became known as the main seller of gently used plus size clothing. After some more pondering, I came up with the name, Pansyle's Boutique. We offer the same quality clothing, accessories, and customer service as before - just no gently used children's clothing. Who was/is Pansyle? She was my mother, who was the running force behind my father’s business. She was born Pansy Lee in 1926. My grandmother named her after her favorite cousin. I grew up hearing her side of the family call her “Pansy”, while my father’s side called her “Lee” or “Pansyle”. I once asked her how the name Pansyle came to be and she told me that after graduation she put the two names together in order for her name to sound more mature. She became an executive secretary in St. Louis, Missouri, so I guess it helped. She met my father after the war and they married in 1953. Once their relationship got serious, she went to Chicago to help my father in his newly started business. In 1983, they sold the business and retired. She passed away at a young 64 from metastized breast cancer, which is why on my print ads and my cards I have the breast cancer awareness ribbon. You might also see in my ads and on my cards, I have the autism awareness ribbon. That is for my brother, Jack who is 45 and lives in Illinois. I am his guardian, since both our parents have passed. So now, the Mommy and Me Too! name no longer represents the store in its present incarnation. I really like what I have to offer - gently used maternity & plus size clothing, brand new children's formal wear, American Girl products (not dolls) and new, upscale jewelry. I am not planning on changing anything else or moving for that matter! That’s my story and I am sticking to it! Since we feature brand new children’s formal wear, think of us for tuxedos and dresses for weddings, christenings, and First Communion. Additionally, we have beautiful tiaras for weddings and other special occasions, as well as upscale designer jewelry for a fraction of the price and American Girl clothing and accessories. |
